PerformanceGaines Testimonials

"There are two very difficult components to a successful training program:
1) steady consistent workouts – keeping with the program
2) methodical, tailored approach to the training to maximize improvement in performance – performance increases or gains

Chris excels at balancing these two components – interesting, varied and ... even fun workouts that keep you coming back & coaxing ever increasing effort through a tailored program that results in steady increased in performance."

"Last year, with PG's help, I ran a marathon while dribbling a basketball, trying to break a Guinness World Record as a fundraiser. This task was unlike anything I have ever done, and required for a training plan that incorporated multiple aspects of training and focuses. We worked together multiple times a week for almost a year to prepare for this feat. At the race, I was as ready as I could ever have been, actually on pace to break the record by 30 minutes (and set a time that would have qualified me for Boston...with a basketball). Unfortunately, a freak accident (slipping on water) at an aid station on mile 14, led to injuries to my LCL and IT Band. I kept limping/walking for 6 miles, when I ran into Chris cheering me on. He then joined me for the last couple of miles (running in jeans) giving me words of encouragement and helping me finish. I was not able to break the record, missing it by 20 minutes, but I was able to complete the marathon, not stopping the dribbling once. Without Chris' preparation and encouragement, I would not have been able to achieve my goal, let alone finish the race after the injury. Thanks to his motivation and support, we were also able to raise over $7,000 for disadvantaged youth to help with college fees.

PerformanceGaines has impacted my training by helping me take a more all-around look at my training. Instead of looking at exercise and healthy eating as a way to "stay in shape," PG has taught me to incorporate it as part of my lifestyle. Fitness and staying active has always been important, but instead of it being an extra additive, it is just incorporated throughout my day. Furthermore, my training also focuses on preventing injury while building strength and speed. Being a lifelong runner and basketball player, I have dealt with many injuries due to the impact that my legs take in these activities. But working with Chris to improve flexibility, strength, and balance and placing more value on my body has minimized my injuries while training. Chris' impact helped me reach the best all-around fitness level in my life, and along with his constant praise and encouragement, I also have the most motivation and inspiration to keep achieving goals. "Chris - Thanks for all the help and advice you have given me since I broke my ankle. I must admit that rehab has not always been fun but the outcomes have been exactly what I want: full use of my ankle and the ability to return to my conditioning program pain free."

"I have spent the past 15 years working in the fitness industry and in that time I have met hundreds of trainers and fitness coaches. December of 2009 I met Chris Gaines and from the first meeting I was truly impressed with his poise and commitment to his craft. Chris is that trainer who practices what he preaches. Chris is always studying and teaching himself – as well as his clients – proper training and nutrition techniques. He goes the extra mile for all his clients and trainer that work for him.

It is rare, in life that you will run across a person quite like Chris. He does not judge anyone and spreads thought full advice to anyone who takes the time to speak with him. Despite his large stature he comes across as a wise old man. Chris is the type of person who I would want to mentor my kids as a coach when they are of age.

Over the past year I have spent a lot of time with Chris as a coworker, friend and trainer partner. In that time I have learned an enormous amount about training, nutrition, business . . . and how to be a better person.

To add to all of Chris’s great personal attributes are his exceptional skills as a trainer and coach. Chris takes extra care to put together programs specifically designed for his athlete’s needs. Anyone who is lucky enough to have Chris as their trainer is bound to reach their goals as long as they follow his professional advice.

If I was going to hire a trainer today there is no doubt I am going to talk to Chris first!"

"Chris is thoughtful, detail and goal orientated, and very athlete focused. Combined with his depth and breath of knowledge, Chris is what I would consider the perfect S&C coach. Chris has the ability to work inside in the weight room and outside on the field, with individuals and groups. He is a key reason why Stanford University Women's Rugby Club have been to the last six DI National Collegiate Championships, winning three titles."
