All about Griff

Originally from Ireland, Griff excelled as a junior athlete in Rugby, Horse Riding and Olympic Pentathlon. He began to focus on rugby after he finished his undergraduate B.Sc. (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science studies at the University of Brighton, UK, following which he played for ten years at the national league level including London Irish RFC, Norwich RFC and Blackheath RFC. Griff’s rugby career also included selection to numerous All Star and international teams.

Having graduated in 2004 with an M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Loughborough University, UK, Griff immediately began working as the full-time Assistant Coach to Loughborough University Rugby Club with specific responsibly for skill development and strength and conditioning.

Griff was then hired in 2005 to his current role at Stanford where he has coached the women to five National Championship finals appearances, winning three. In his current role as Head Coach to the Pacific Coast Collegiate All Star Men’s program, the “Grizzlys” have won the National All Star Championships on three consecutive occasions. He was also selected in June 2009 as the Attack Coach to the first ever All American Collegiate Women’s Team. In July 2009, Griff was selected to the role of the Human Performance Manager for the US Rugby Women’s National 7’s Team.

He has been working since 1996 to oversee the strength and conditioning development of high performance athletes for junior and senior international rugby teams, as well as international aline skiing, fencing and track athletes. This has been achieved by combining innovative training methods and skills development, with optimum athlete support structures.
