Monkey Business: Locomotion Workshop for Parents and Kids

Imagine never doubting yourself physically. We know your life may not revolve around exercise and making “optimal” choices for fitness may not be your chief concern when you’re at work or hanging out with your family.

Of course you want to be physically capable of keeping your kids warm, fed, and safe. But you also want to have fun with them! You want to teach them how to play the sports you love, take them on vacations and outdoor adventures, and just run around and dance and be silly, all with the confidence that you can handle whatever comes up. But time for training is tight. And with so many video games, TV shows, and social networks screaming for your kids’ attention, it can be hard to make sure they get enough movement to develop healthy, capable bodies. Research also shows that children are strongly influenced by what their parents do on a regular basis. If children observe inactive lifestyles by their parents then the greater the probability that children become inactive as well; affecting growth and lifestyle.

This workshop will help re-educate the body to move freely and naturally while learning the importance of each locomotion movement. At the same time you and your kid will be working on strength, flexibility, body control, and coordination.

Anatomy Trains in Training

Anatomy Trains in Training has its foundation in Tom Myers's Anatomy Trains and James Earls' Born to Walk. The myofascial meridians give the map of loading. This map has developed in us because of the loading of the movement that we most commonly do. This map needs to be trained as a whole, but we also need to be able to understand it's individual connections.

AT in Training includes discussions and practical exercises for overall exercise programming and singular exercise building for different individuals. Additionally, how to warm up for the exercise and at the same time improve neuro-myofascial performance while minimizing injuries. We will review the fascia as a body-wide organ system that gets trained, repairs itself, and keeps us together, go over what’s in and what’s out, suggested by current findings and research, including an overview of the Anatomy Trains Myofascial Meridians, Tom Myers’ revolutionary mapping of the fascial connections through the muscles.

This course includes the latest research results relevant to today’s trainer in construction, injury repair, force transmission, postural compensation, response to various forms of stretch, elasticity, fascial neurology, hydration and ageing, as well as fascial pain – all of which are taking place within the extra-cellular matrix of fibers and mucopolysaccharide glue.

AT in Training offers a 4-D neuro-myofascial approach to body movement that includes assessment & developing function and performance. Gain new and exciting tools to build and progress individualized exercises that are appropriate to any clients’ body.

See and feel the various layers and types of fascial tissue, understand all the fascial elements and their properties, how sensori-motor-amnesia can rob us of our full potential, how rest is important to tissue health, and how all the fascial tissues hang together to make total body movement.

Presenter:

AP is an Anatomy Trains Teacher and the only Certified Anatomy Trains in Training Teacher in the world! He is also one of the founders and Senior Teacher for the largest Personal Trainer Education organization in Finland, Trainer4you. He is known to give inspiring and intense, yet fun and entertaining lectures that put the theory into practice. AP is also a founder of Functional Myofascial Training workshops that integrate fascia myofascial continuities to neuro-myofascia for strengthening the body in its context.

The HAPTIK certification process is an immersive two day course that runs from 12pm-6pm on May 25 & 26. It will be instructed by Dr. Janet Jun.

The course includes:

  • Two of the base classes (squat and overhead) for the experience of what HAPTIK has to offer. Each day includes one class

  • The theory, philosophy and science behind the HAPTIK class

    • Practical application of popular exercises, and principles of strength and conditioning

    • Constructing class and exercise systems for sport/movement specific requirements

    • Teaching you how to make your clients better at what they want to do

    • Basic physiology of pain, movement, kinematics and exercise science.

  • Access to HAPTIK class templates and application of proposed classes

  • Exercise and movement review of exercises used in clinical settings
